REPORTER PANGOLIN AND “NOT-SO BREAKING NEWS”: THE PLEA FROM PANGOLINS FOR HELP TO ESCAPE FROM POACHING AND EXTINCTION.

Ho Chi Minh City, 4th May 2021 – CHANGE and WildAid officially launched the “Pangolin still endangered” campaign to review the alarming information about the poaching and consumption of pangolin in Vietnam. Reporter Pangolin with “Pangolin Not-So Breaking News” is the kicking-off activity of the campaign.

Pangolin poaching has been a serious crisis for a long time. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature report (IUCN), more than 1 million pangolins have been illegally traded in just ten years, making them the most trafficked mammals in the world. The IUCN estimates that a Pangolin is captured from the wild every 5 minutes, culminating over 200.000 annually. Despite this serious state, many people still neglect the pangolin emergency state.

With this campaign, CHANGE and WildAid want to connect the pangolin to the public by introducing him as a reporter – Reporter Pangolin. We are all familiar with a reporter, but a pangolin speaking up for its species extinction is unusual, which makes us question their current state in Vietnam. With the message “The more we know, the less we harm pangolins”,  the campaign aims to disseminate information of the state of the pangolin and call for the community to join hands and protect this endangered animal. Therefore, the pangolin has to transform into a reporter to raise the alarm and call the community to help him and his fellows from extinction.

Activities belonging to the “Pangolins still endangered” campaign gladly receive support from Pangolin Crisis Fund, Royal Netherlands Embassy and the companion of strategic media partners Chicilon Media, Movad, Dinosaur Vietnam and TikTok.
